The Wonderful World of Dissocia
May 8 @ 19:00 – 21:15

Level 2 & 3 Performing Arts Students from Weston College present The Wonderful World Of Dissocia by Anthony Neilson.

Lisa Jones is on a journey, a quest to recover a lost hour from her life. She undertakes this mission in an exciting and vibrant world: a world inhabited by bizarre characters. The inhabitants of this wonderful world she finds herself in – Dissocia – are a curious blend of the funny, the friendly and the brutal, including a talking Polar Bear, Insecurity Guards and the Ominous Black Dog King.

As Neilson himself puts it, “if you like Alice in Wonderland but there’s not enough sex and violence in it, then Dissocia is the show for you”.

Originally produced for the Edinburgh International Festival in 2004, The Wonderful World of Dissocia is a funny, energetic, yet ultimately heart breaking play, identifying Anthony Nelison as one of the core voices in contempoary British Theatre.

“Bubbling with inventiveness that is distinctly its own.” – Daily Telegraph
“Witty, entertaining, unsettling and intelligent.” – Scotland on Sunday
”The is is powerful stuff, which paints a fantastically enticing and entertaining account of the decent into madness” – Stage

Please note this is only suitable for aged 16 years and over due to explicit content & language.

Cosi Fan Tutte
Jul 6 @ 19:30 – 22:10

Cosi fan tutte is driven by two men who pretend to go to war and then return in disguise to see how faithful their fiancées really are.

It is being set in the 1960s because it provides a clearer indication of the nature of the disguise than the original transformation from 18th century Neapolitans to 18th century Albanians. The men’s disguise in this production suggests they have got lost on the way back from Woodstock. Despina is no longer be an uppity maid, but a travelling beautician, who has the sisters amongst her clients.

Don Alfonso remains a man who thinks he is the puppet master, manipulating everyone else – but is this really true?

Not to be missed, this exciting Opera of Who ends up with who? Who takes the bet seriously? When do the girls realise what is going on (if at all)? There are many ways that this situation can be resolved and this is part of the enduring fascination of this opera.

Bath Opera return to the Blakehay Theatre this summer after their acclaimed performance of La Boheme in 2018.

Director: Tom Magnone. Musical Director: Peter Blackwood
